Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women lifted the WPL 2026 championship, defeating Delhi Capitals Women by six wickets in the final at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium, Vadodara on Thursday. Chasing a daunting target of 204, RCB delivered a commanding batting performance to secure their second Women’s Premier League title in three editions, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament’s most consistent sides.
Delhi set a massive target
Delhi Capitals batted first after losing the toss, posting a formidable 203 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs, one of the highest totals ever seen in a WPL final. The innings was powered by a series of aggressive and well-constructed knocks from the top and middle order, building on earlier pressure with calculated intent and regular boundary scoring.
RCB chase with intent and class
In reply, RCB’s chase was anchored by starring contributions from skipper Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll. Mandhana led the charge with a fluent 83 off 39 balls, navigating the big target with poise while finding the boundary at regular intervals.
Voll played an equally impactful knock, scoring 79 off 54 balls that put RCB firmly in control through the middle overs. Together the duo shared a century-plus partnership, puncturing the target’s psychological edge and giving RCB sustained momentum.
The Bengaluru batters chased the target with time to spare, reaching 204 for 4 in 19.4 overs to celebrate on the field and claim the coveted title. The efficient run chase showcased RCB’s batting depth, tactical clarity and ability to perform under final-day pressure. With the match going down the wire, Radha Yadav struck back-to-back boundaries to take RCB over the line.
Contributions that tilted the balance
Mandhana’s innings combined crisp boundaries, smart strike rotation and calculated aggression, setting the tone for RCB’s pursuit. Voll’s knock complemented the captain’s efforts, mixing rhythm with attacking intent, a combination that proved decisive in dismantling the imposing target. The opening partnership between the two set a platform that few teams chase down with ease in event finals.
For Delhi Capitals, the loss continues their streak of near-misses in WPL finals. Despite posting a massive total that should have tested any opponent, missed breakthroughs and a lack of mid-innings pressure applied by the bowlers allowed RCB to make headway and claim the title.
DC lose 4th WPL final in a row
The victory marks Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s second WPL crown, adding to their success in WPL 2024 and reinforcing their ability to deliver on the big stage. On th other side, Delhi Capitals extended their record of finals appearances, reaching yet another summit clash, but remain in search of a maiden title despite several strong campaigns. It is notably the 4th defeat in a row in grand finale clash for DC, a heartbreaking stat for them.
Looking ahead
As WPL 2026 draws to a close, both finalists will reflect on standout performances and areas for evolution ahead of the WPL 2027 season. RCB’s title success offers momentum and confidence for the coming year, while Delhi will look to convert its consistent campaigns into silverware. Fans of the league can expect more enthralling contests as the competition continues to grow in stature and competitiveness.
